Black and white photograph of the Wilks Memorial Gates and the old Gatehouse, at RHS Garden Wisley. Mr Holloway can be seen standing outside the gatehouse. H. Holloway was gateman and seed distributor at RHS Garden Wisley, from 1947. The Wilks Memorial Gates were built in 1925 to honour William Wilks, RHS Secretary 1888-1920. Pencil inscription on verso, 'Env. 7, 2,E. Entrance to Garden about 1947, with oaktree, Gatehouse, and Wilks 'Shirley Poppy' Memorial Gate. The gate attendant was Mr Holloway. He escorted visitors to his lodge to sign the Visitors Book'. H. Holloway was gateman and seed distributor at RHS Garden Wisley, from 1947. The Wilks Memorial Gates were built in 1925 to honour William Wilks, RHS Secretary 1888-1920
