Dobbie's New Zealand Ferns
Herbert B. Dobbie (1852-1940) was an engineer and botanist. He emigrated to New Zealand in 1875. Dobbie was familiar with the cyanotype process, as it was used for blueprint plans by architects and engineers. There are only c.15 known surviving copies of the 'New Zealand Ferns' book; they are known as the ‘Blue books’ due to the blue paper used in the cyanotype process.
